Terms of Service
The rules for using PermitsByCounty — written plainly, because our whole job is making public records clearer.
Last updated: October 17, 2026
What this service is
PermitsByCounty is an independent public-record reporting service. We collect building-permit records published by city and county governments, organize them into county reports, and publish summaries for general information. We are not a government agency, and nothing on this site is an official record. The official record held by the source jurisdiction is always the source of truth.
Data, as reported and as-is
Every figure on this site is published as reported by its source jurisdiction, with the source named and the collection date shown. Public records contain errors, lag behind reality, and change after publication; jurisdictions correct their own records on their own schedules. Reports are provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. If a figure matters to a decision you are making, verify it against the official record before relying on it.
No advice, valuations, or endorsements
We report permits. We do not advise anyone on what to build, buy, or bid; we do not value projects or properties; and appearing in a report is not an endorsement of any business. Project values shown are the values reported to the jurisdiction by the applicant, not our estimate of anything.
Acceptable use
- Reports are free for personal and business reference.
- Record-level data may not be bulk-scraped, bulk-exported, or republished as a dataset. Bulk access, API access, and alerts are reserved services, offered only under their own terms.
- Aggregate figures (counts, totals, top trades) may be shared and cited with attribution to PermitsByCounty, the county, and the period shown on the report.
- The embeddable widget, when offered, must keep its credit line and link intact.
Sample and planned labels
Until a county's live data feed opens, any report for that county is labeled a sample report and its figures are illustrative of the format only. Planned coverage is always labeled planned, never live. We would rather show you an honest label than a quiet guess.
Corrections
If a report does not match the official record, we correct or remove the figure and note the change, under our Corrections Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service grows; the current version always lives at this address, with its update date shown at the top.
